New Delhi:
Social media companies like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are facing a major problem in the country. The central government had directed all social media companies in the country to abide by certain rules and gave them a period of three months, which will expire on May 26.

So far, these companies have not complied with the rules laid down by the government. So now the three social media platforms Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram will be shut down in India from tomorrow? Such a question has arisen. Meanwhile, the newly launched social media platform Q has started following government rules, sources said.

In India, social media websites act as intermediaries, and no action is taken against any social media company if a person makes offensive comments or posts on social media, as they are exempt from the Government of India. But if you believe the information given by India TV, it is understood that the freedom given to Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram by the government will end tomorrow, May 26.

If these suggestions are not accepted by May 26, the government may shut down the relevant social media sites. In the future, if any user posts offensively on the relevant social media site, action may be taken against that user on the relevant social media site.

On February 25, 2021, the Ministry of Electronics and IT of the Government of India had directed the social media companies to comply with certain instructions within three months, which was also published in the Government of India Gazette.

As per the order, social media companies were asked to appoint compliance officers, nodal officers in India. Also, all these officers must be in India. The order also said that social media companies would have to provide information on physical contact persons on their websites or mobile apps.

Three months term from the government:

On February 25, 2021, the Government of India's MEITY gave all social companies three months to comply with the new rules. These include giving your officer and contact address in India, the appointment of compliance officers, redressal of grievances, monitoring of objectionable content, compliance reports, and removal of objectionable content. So far no company other than Q has hired these officers.
