| Black Fungus Havoc: 5,500 cases reported, 70% deaths in Maharashtra |
Black Fungus Havoc: While the number of corona patients is declining, the black fungus has raised concerns. Black fungus has killed 126 people in the country so far. Apart from this, about 5,500 patients have been diagnosed with this fungal infection so far. Another worrying factor is that Maharashtra has the highest number of deaths due to this infection. So far, five states have declared it an epidemic.
The situation has become so serious that many states are facing a shortage of liposomal amphotericin B for the treatment of this disease.
According to the Times of India, there are currently around 5,500 cases of black fungus in the country. Of these, 126 people have died. In Maharashtra alone, 90 people have lost their lives due to this fungal infection. So far, 14 patients have died in Haryana and 8 in Uttar Pradesh.

After the recent blackout in Patna, Bihar, white fungus patients have also been found. Therefore, anxiety is likely to increase further.
After Rajasthan, Gujarat on Thursday also declared the disease an epidemic. Punjab, Haryana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana have declared it a notable disease under the Outbreak Act. After this, it has become necessary to inform the state governments of these states about every case of mucormycosis.
